TiffanySmith-#1blog-Nrsginformatics

What I have learned in week 1 healthcare informatics: Healthcare Informatics has already been quite the challenge for me. I know what I need to know about technology and thats about it. Starting this class has made me expand my horizons and do new tasks that I have'nt done before, which is stressful to me. I learned some key terms related to healthcare informatics, how to set up a twitter account, how to create my own blog, what informatics is, and how it is used in nursing. I think that the twitter and blogging is what is most confusing and foreign to me. It is hard to understand how it all works exactly, but Im catching on.
Why healthcare informatics is so important- I have learned that healthcare informatics is very important. Whether we like it or not, it is becoming a part of our every day work lives. Remember when EMR with Epic was first announced? Many medical personnel were quite effected by this thinking how hard it would be to adapt to this new way of charting after being used to hand writing everything. Look how far we have come! Now, when our EMR fails and goes down, we all freak out about having to hand write everything. I think that this goes to show that we as humans can learn just about anything and can adapt to many new situations. Informatics is a huge part of providing patient care and must be treated the way it is supposed to for example by maintaining HIPAA regulations, charting honestly, accurately, and not biased or manipulatively.
